folks, keep my wife's Dad, and all of the other folks involved in this deck collapse, in your prayers. Rebekah's Dad manages the Cyntergy building and that deck and has his offices there. Nobody was injured, thankfully, just a bunch of crunched up cars and years of insurance and liability paperwork forthcoming. I know he'll be stressed to the gills with this. I parked in this deck a bunch when I wa sin school and always parked there for football games. I parked there, too, until they jacked their rates. $20 is a little steep for gameday parking, in my opinion. I can do a little better than that. I supose when your woman's dad runs the place, parking is a little cheaper, huh doc?

Glad to hear everyone is ok. With all the engineers around there it should be back up in no time.

I heard on the news last night that the company that built the deck is the same bunch that built the walkway at the Atlanta Botanical Garden that collapsed.
Ouch...

I doubt they'll be getting much more business in the ATL. Doc, hope your paw-in-law doesn't get too much stress over the ordeal. Glad there was only loss of property and not life.

I heard on the news last night that the company that built the deck is the same bunch that built the walkway at the Atlanta Botanical Garden that collapsed. Ouch... Hardin construction was the GC, and of course the media is going crazy over them. In reality, they most likely had zero to do with the actual construction of the deck. It was sub'd out to Metromart, a huge pre-stressed concrete company who designs, engineers, and builds parking decks all over the country. If you are parked downtown right now, there is about a 50% chance that you're parked in a deck that was built by Metromart. They're huge. The fact that Hardin was the GC of record is coincidental, at best.

The fact that Hardin was the GC of record is coincidental, at best. But perception is reality, and with the media needing to sensationalize every story, honing in on the fact that the GC was the same creates a frenzy to the story. And the perception of Hardin will suffer.

And the perception of Hardin will suffer. well, developers get to choose who they want to build their projects. I have little doubt that Hardin will be free of all prosecution or liability in terms of the law. If a developer thinks his investors will be turned off by using Hardin, then it could be a big a hit to them. However, Hardin is a strong company, they've been around a long time, and they have an excellent track record and many quality projects in the area. I think if they are once again found not to be liable for the failure, they will be fine. They just have to weather this immediate storm of erroneous "facts" and speculation by the know-nothings.
