Satellite Personal Tracker Just got one of these. Not cheap for the unit or the service, but not expensive either when you think about the security it gives you for the year. When I'm out and about on my outdoor adventures, which often take me out of cell range, I now have a way to communicate with the family to let them know exactly where I am and that I'm ok. If something were to happen, it's got a GPS 911 service to get help to me. Heading out into the Gulf this Friday for some fishing, so I'll be taking it along. If nothing else, I can send signals back to mark waypoints that I can later look at on a map to see where we traveld. www.findmespot.com Pretty neat little device.

I'd be interested in learning how well, or how poorly, SPOT works for you. That'd be something I'd be interested in getting. I am constantly getting outside of my cell coverage area on a fairly regular basis and the way I look at it, $100 a year is a small price to pay for a device like this provided the service lives up to the advertising.

Do you want me to add your email to the OK button? It'll send you an email each time I "check in" and you can go to Google Maps to see where I be and track my adventure spots.

Red And once that kid gets here, you're gonna find your outlook on everything changes. You're gonna still enjoy getting out and doing the things you love, but you're gonna want to get back home and be a good dad to help that kid grow up into a good person.

I think it'd be useful at my camp even when hunting with the gang. My cell doesn't work at the camp due to lack of coverage. If I don't come out by dark, they'd come looking, but if I went in at first light and fell outta the stand on the climb up, waitin' on dark takes on a whole new meaning.

Someone there would have to have internet service or cell service. You can program a cell number or email address into the "Help" button which requests help at your GPS coordinates from you list. The "OK" button simply sends your GPS coordinates to those on your list. The 911 button sends a distress with your GPS location to the local 911 call center. You can also enter additional information to go to the 911 dispatch. Since I've had a kidney stone, I entered that information. That way, if an attack ever hits me and I'm in the middle of the woods, at least when they get there maybe they'll be ready with some morphine.

I added both of your email address to the "OK" button. I'll turn it on during the week and give the "OK" button a try. I'll especially hit it on Friday morning as we're out in the gulf catching fish! Just to let you know where I'm catching 'em while you're working.

I sent out an "OK" message yesterday evening, and included my email. I received a link to a Google map with the GPS coordinates on it. It was a little off, but within a few houses of where I was when I pushed the button.
Would have gotten rescuers close enough for me to hear them, or for them to find the body after a short search........
Did you guys get the email as well?

I did not get the email unless it hit the junk folder, which it may have. But it's gone if I ever got it. Try it again and I'll be more careful as to what I delete next time...

Got the emails and that is pretty impressive. Dang, Boudreaux, you were evidently WAY out in the Gulf! Don't look at the "A" tag on the map. That's just a name marker for the Gulf. The arrow up near Panama City is where we were fishing. We were about 10 miles out. Looks pretty close to shore when you first pull it up, but when you zoom in, you can see that it was still a ways out there.

So, what's the verdict? Did it meet expectations?

So, what's the verdict? Did it meet expectations? The trip or the SPOT? SPOT worked well. I sent locations on the way down on Wednesday as well as some from the fishing trip. Fishing trip was OK. We did catch some amberjacks and king mackerals. We were bottom fishing a few wrecks, and most of the fish we hooked darted into the wrecks and got us hung up. Probably lost 3 rigs each for each fish we caught. Caught the big king mackeral on a free line way out from the boat. It was a 15 minute fight with him making several runs. Was really neat to be able to see him so deep in the water when I fought him to the boat before he would make a run. And we were using light tackle for that. Probably had 10 or 12 lb test line.

Short story - My dad is battling cancer and can't fight a striper any longer, so we went bream fishing, which is one of his favorite types of fishing. We caught probably 100 fish, and kept about 25, but he loved it, so we'll be going back every time he comes to visit for as long as he's able to go.

Short story - My dad is battling cancer Man I'm VERRRYYY sorry to hear that bud.. My wife's best friend( they grew up together, went to college together, went to nursing school together, went to work at the same hop, in the same department together) you get the point, they are truly like sisters. She's 31 years old and has a 5 yo daughter and a 1 yo daughter. She recently quit breast feeding and found a lump in her breast. It's cancer and has spread..She's going through the most aggressive chemo offered and will have both breast removed..Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair..
