The DNR released thousands of rainbow trout this Saturday at Joes Bridge Park. They also sponsored a kids fishing day there. Since it's just around the corner, Little Boudreaux and I headed down there. We got him into his life jacket and waded out a little ways onto the rocks and baited up. Between throwing powerbait into the water to watch it float downstream and swishing his pole in the water, Lil Bou hooked into one, and it was pretty funny to see how badly it startled him. I guess he still doesn't really know what to expect when fishing. Although he didn't land it, it was fun for him. But a 2 1/2 year old has a short attention span, and after that it was time to just go wading around on the rocks. Then, it was time to pack up the fishing gear and head for the playground. Although I would have loved for him to just become passionate about fishing right then and there, the morning was about dad and son having fun. All I needed to have fun was seeing him have some fun, so I'll count that as "mission accomplished". By the time we left the park, we barely had time to get him to eat his lunch before he fell exhausted into his mid-day nap. Nothing better than playing hard with you kid (or grandkid, Dutch you old man!) and then seeing them crash hard. This weekend Dad may try to take the boat out on the Hooch and do some real trout fishing.
