Trout are one of my favorite salt water species to fish for.
My favorite place (so far) to fish for them is Steinhatchee, FL. Best way I've found to catch 'em is with a jig head with some kind of plastic on it. DOA shrimp work well, but I really like Bass Assassin plastic shad baits in various colors. As far as color is concerned, it's hard to beat Electric Chicken, Candy Corn, and Sapce Guppy, but I will change from time to time to get the opinion of the fish...

When we were there, mirrors were working the best. Red heads with white bodies. JR is selling the crap out of those Gulp Lures. Next time you are headed that way give me a shout.

Top water mirrorlures or sub-surface baits. I got them in the box, too.
I want to make a trip somewhere in the spring, but turkey season always gets in the way. We need to plan a trip somewhere, though. It would be a blast!

I guess when you find them in the creeks you can throw a variety and see what works......I am in the proces of saving for a boat and a mud motor to use down there. Red

Red That's what you'd need to get to the creeks, especially at low tide... I agree with getting the bait into the grass to get at the bigger fish, but you gotta love a good topwater bite!

We are going to Mexico Beach for a couple days in April...from what I understand, everything will be biting. Trout, reds, whiting, flounder, maybe a king or spanish. The blue fish might be running as well. I'm pumped. I might even try and wade with my flyrod depending on the bite and the weather.

Spanish are much fun, too, due to their tendancy to school. Blues are OK to play with, but I don't keep them.

Fishing sucks...too much freahwater from the recent rains. I've caught 2 fish from the beach and that's it. We might try 1 more spot tomorrow morning before we head out.
