Gotta brag on Lil Boudreaux a bit. Momma Boudreaux was recently wrapping Christmas presents when Lil Boudreaux pulled the cardboard tube out of the wrapping paper. He looked at Momma and told her, "this is my shotgun". Sounds as if I might have me a hunter on my hands. ;D ;D ;D Momma told me about it when I got home, so Lil Boudreaux and me took our "shotguns" down to the basement and practiced shooting at the ducks on the wall. (Heck, even I can shoot 'em when they're not moving!) He had a good time with that. Another 5 years or so and he'll have the .410 in his hands.

Good deak. Skip the .410 and just get him a 20. Light loads and he'll be fine and it won't break the bank like buying .410 ammo would.
In fact, when his time comes, let me know and I'll let you borrow the Remington 870 youth gun I bought for my son several years back. Good little gun that served us well and is now used by my nephews from time to time.
Just keep feeding him lots of red beans and rice and he'll be fine.

Well, the .410 was my dad's first shotgun and it was my first shotgun, so I've gotta keep that tradition going. He may only use it for a year before stepping up to a 20 ga.
Thanks for the offer of the loan of the 20 ga. However, I got a GREAT deal on a like-new 1100LT with 2 barrels - both with screw in chokes. I bought a syn youth stock for it, as well as a slug barrel, so he's got his first duck and deer gun. (I started off deer hunting with slugs because dad thought it was safer, and I'll plan on doing the same for Lil Boudreaux.)
I also purchased from my Dad's cousin a Remington Sportsman in 16 ga, so when he's wanting to step up from the 20, I've got the next gun for him.
And I got a good deal on a youth model Rem 700 in .308 syn stock. So once he graduates from the 20 ga slug, he's got his first deer rifle. Found a beautiful adult wood stock for it on Ebay, so I can keep him shooting that .308 for a while.
Dad has already promised to give his 12 ga to Lil Boudreaux, so he's set for quite a while. I know it's early, but I've got room in the gun safe and I only bought these guns because they were great deals.
I sure hope he continues this interest.

Sounds like Lil "Boudreaux the Great!" is off on the right foot. I guess Doc and I are the only two on here without younguns yet?
