Depends on if it's a pet or not. If it's a wild dog in the woods, I treat it like a yote. If it's a pit bull about to attack me, my family, or my dog, I'll shoot it. If it's the neighbor's dog that's just crapping in my yard, I think shooting it would be a little extreme.
If it's a maltipoo or other queer breed, you'd be doing the dog a favor!

I like this thread title!
As for the shooting of dogs, I support the shooter's right to choose.
A dog running loose on hunting property that you have leased is a problem. With such animals, it's usually not a question of if they'll start running your deer, it's a question of when.
A dog crapping in your yard is a problem, but not one that warrants the discharge of a firearm of the loosing of an arrow. Handle that the right way with the dog's owner. If you ain't got the hair to do that, too bad for you, learn to live with stepping in dog mess when you cut your grass.

I've never personally shot a dog, but I've been with a friend who shot one on his place. I felt no remorse in being a part of it.
If you don't want your dog shot, keep it on your property.
That said, if given the choice I probably wouldn't shoot one unless the dog was hurting my property in some way and diplomatic talks with owner had broken down.

I shot a coyote last weekend- came in on a rope when I was working the doe in heat can. I did a double take to make sure it was not a dog. Wild dogs have been a problem on our property in the past and I am not bothered by getting rid of them.

Yeah ok a dog is runnin by you.. how do you know someone "LET" their dog do that.. what if the kid accidentally let the dog out and you just killed some kid's dog. my son's outdoors cat went missing and my kid asked me EVERY day for 8months if i'd called the pound that day to see if anyone had found him.. i guess its a parent thing..

I've killed several. the first was a pack of wild dogs that were killing the landowners calves. We drove up on them eating another calf and took care of them. There were about 10 and they were definitely wild. The only other time I've shot a dog was a shepherd mix that i ran across while quail hunting. He started walking toward me and growling. I don't like it, but there are instances where you have to. I've never shot a dog that was just passing through while hunting and don't intend to.
