Any traditional muzzleloader shooters here?
By traditional, I mean sidelocks as opposed to inlines, with no telescopic sights.
I shoot a Lyman Great Plains .50 caliber percussion rifle, patched round balls. And I shoot it very well...

I've got a Hawken .54. Love that thing....killed my first black powder deer with it. I shoot power belts.

What I'm asking you is, what's the twist? If it's a 1-in-60, you really ought to think about shooting patched balls in that thing. However, if it's say, a 1 in 32, you're OK with conical bullets.

We can do that.
Using conicals in barrels designed for patched balls will eventually render the barrell useless for siad patched balls, but what do you care?

We've shot those buffalo bullets for years and never had problems with them....plus, they've been more effective on deer as well. I switched to the power belts when they first came out. The barrel is one of those big octagon heavy things....I never saw anything that said what type of bullet to use....Come on down this way and we'll have a shooting match. Red

I shoot Buffalo Bullets in my inline. Short, quick twist barrel. Nothing but patched round balls in the Great Plains rifle with no complaints.
I'll be at Chehaw in January in a match at the Frontier Festival. Non-oparticipants in the festival can't participate, however. You'll need to come up with a pre-1840 rig (clothing) to compete there.

I've got a loin cloth that I hang out of. Will that work? ;D Kelly has some magic markers that I can use for face paint. I might try and make it up there. Red

Skimpy little loin cloth, huh? If you want to come dressed like that in January, you're on your own. Otherwise, we'll keep an eye out for you.
