I do some volunteer work with an organization called Operation One Voice (www.operationonevoice.org).
This weekend we are having the Phil Niekro Skins and Fins event. We have a full slate of golfers on Friday and a fishing tournament on Saturday, both at Lake Lanier Islands. All proceeds go to support the needs of the families of Special Operation Forces soldiers that have been wounded or killed in action.
We are hosting 15 families of wounded SOF soldiers this weekend at LLI for the events.
Here's the invitation:
Sunday morning at 9:00 we will host a lake side service. Marine Major General Clark will speak, and the message will be delivered by John Burrough, former Atlanta Falcon (1995 - 1998) and current Gwinnett Braves chaplin. Last year's message was great, and the General and John made a good team.
The lakeside service will be at Peachtree Point, which is a right BEFORE you enter the gates for LLI, meaning that the service is FREE! Many of the wounded soldiers and their families will be there as well.
This year's program honors the SEALS. OOV's founder and Duluth Police Lt. is currently biking (with a group of SEALS and police officers and firefighters) from Little Creek VA to Duluth GA. They will arrive in Duluth on Friday, and on Saturday morning will bike, with members of the public who have signed up, the last 22 mile leg from Duluth to LLI with a police escort.
So, any of you who can make it 9:00 on Sunday morning, we'd love to have you participate in the service. I've invited my Sunday School class, so invite yours too for a little twist on the Sunday service.
