Living in a swamp, you can't be too surprised when your house floods. Even when you go through 3 "once in 500 years" floods before you're 20 years old, you've got to remember that you live in a swamp and not far from a bayou.
However, I never expected flood damage on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
I was working the OOV Warrior Challenge on Saturday, and Dawn had taken Harris to soccer tryouts and then a movie. She left the washing machine going when she left, and returned home about 5 hours later to find that, as she put it, "raining in the basement".
I get that phone call on my way home and get there to find the sheetrock collapsed onto the floor, the kitchen, breakfast area, living room and laundry room standing in water.
I called the insurance company and got ServPro out on Monday. They have cut out the sheetrock in the back corner of the basement, cut out the carpet in padding in 1/2 of the basement, and are coming back today to rip out hardwoods because they are cupping and the subfloor is not drying. And by the way, the style and color of the wood flooring has been discontinued.
I don't know how much the insurance company is going to cover, since the whole 1st floor was not flooded. They should cover all the carpeting in the basement as well as redoing the duct work and sheetrock.
But the adjuster originally mentioned "working in" new boards into the existing hardwood flooring. With it being a different product, that's not going to work well.
Have already bought a new washer and dryer. Wonder how much I'll be out on flooring.
