I am the President of our club in Meriwether County this year and we had a work day yesterday preparing out plots. We bushhogged and sprayed them and will retun to disc and turn in a couple weeks. We plan on planting a mix in the larger plots and may experiment on the smaller plots. Any and all suggestions or tips are welcome, as this planting is pretty much new to me. What do you all have success with?

Well, I'll tell ya what I'm gonna do. We have some new stuff to plant for Pennington on 2 acres, but outside of that I'm going with straight wheat. Cheap, hard to beat, and deer love it. I plan on nuking those fields with roundup in the spring to get crabgrass and volunteer ryegrass under control so I don't want any perennial stuff in them. If'n I were inclined to plant small plots, I would go with a mix of wheat and durana clover and turn them into perennial clover plots going forward.

If'n I were inclined to plant small plots, I would go with a mix of wheat and durana clover and turn them into perennial clover plots going forward. I like this idea, especially the Duranna. I have an established Duranna plot so what I am going to put on the rest of my plots is: 44% seed wheat 26% Coker 227 oats 22% Wrens Abruzzi Rye 5% Crimson clover 2% Dwarf Essex rape 2% purple top turnips I get my seed at Coopers in Auburn, GA. www.cooperseeds.com/They aren't stocking any of their mixes this year because the company that did their mixes for them is out of business so I am just going to buy the seed in bulk and mix it myself. Either that or I will go with Pennington Rackmaster depending on the cost. Planting now might be a little early. The big concern is army worms. Your plots can be up today and within a week the worms will strip the plots. I usually wait until opening weekend of archery to plant. That ruins the weekend hunt but come October my plots are established. Tommy, what do you know about Rackmaster?

Try Brownlees in Lawrenceville Lee I think they'll have what you need.
