GON’s Outdoor Blast Hits Gwinnett With Swampy Feel Nation’s elite duck callers, Troy Landry bring a bayou flavor to Aug. 3-5 hunting show. By Daryl Kirby Posted Wednesday April 25 2012, 4:24 PM
Gwinnett County and Duluth may never be the same. GON and a cast of outdoor characters are rolling into town Aug. 3-5. The Outdoor Blast—a three-day gathering of sportsmen, camo-wearing gals and smiling kids—is coming to the Gwinnett Center.
Among this year’s attendees are Troy and Jacob Landry, rock stars of the Louisiana bayou. Come meet the man who made famous the phrase “Choot ’em!” Father-and-son gator hunters Troy and Jacob Landry from the History Channel show “Swamp People” will be at the show Saturday to sign autographs.
Also slogging out of the bayous will be some of the nation’s top duck callers. On Sunday, Aug. 5, the Outdoor Blast will host the Georgia State Duck Calling Contest, which crowns the state champ and sends him or her off to the World Contest in Stuttgart, Ark. The sanctioned state-championship event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning—you won’t miss church if you come early and catch our special church service for sportsmen.
Last year’s Georgia State Meat Contest, which follows the state championship, attracted two national-champion callers, plus top callers from Florida, Missouri, Arkansas, Maryland and South Carolina. There’s also an entertaining Georgia Two-Man Meat Contest. For more info, go to <facebook.com/georgiaduckcalling>.
Come meet the folks from GON during the weekend of activities, which also include hundreds of hunting and fishing vendors; antler measuring by certified B&C scorers; and a display of the state’s best bucks of the past season. And of course there’s the GON Truck-Buck Shoot-Out. Watch the drama unfold as a pellet-rifle competition decides who drives away in a new Chevy from John Megel Chevrolet.
To secure booth space before it sells out, call Mindy at (800) 438-4663.

Harris and I were watching Swamp People last night and I asked if he'd like to meet those guys. He said yes, but not when they were fighting the alligators. So I just purchased the VIP ticket to the Outdoor Blast so that we are in the group of 150 that get special access to the Landrys on Saturday. I hope he enjoys it!

The ticket I bought is supposedly good for all 3 days, so I'm sure I'll be there on Saturday and Sunday afternoon as well.

Swamp Fever at the Outdoor Blast
Bruce Mitchell, Kristi Broussard will join the Landrys at the Gwinnett Center event. By GON Staff Posted Thursday July 5 2012, 12:06 PM
They couldn't let the King of the Swamp have all the fun during the Outdoor Blast, so Bruce Mitchell and Kristi Broussard have announced they'll also be making appearances during the Aug. 3-5 hunting and fishing show at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Already scheduled was Troy Landry, along with his son Jacob.
The Swamp People appearance schedules* are as follows. Friday, Aug. 3: Bruce Mitchell and his gator-hunting dog Tyler; 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4: Troy and Jacob Landry; 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5: Kristi Broussard; 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
* Please realize that past appearances by these celebrities have attracted more people than could get through the lines during appearance hours. They have to leave at scheduled times, so it's on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you don't want to wait in line for an autograph, there will be an area in the general Outdoor Blast show arena to see and take pictures of the Landrys, Bruce and Kristi.
The Outdoor Blast is a hunting and fishing vendor show—with a difference. Only hunting and fishing related businesses and exhibits are allowed. Other attractions during the three-day show included the Truck-Buck Shoot-Out pellet rifle competitions, the Georgia State Duck Calling Contests, a free kids area, a hunter-safety certification course on Saturday, plus more.
Call 800-438-4663 for more info.

T Boudreaux and I had a blast at the Blast today. Got to meet some great GON members. T Bou had a great time in the Kids Korner and was a trooper looking at all the booths with me. He loves the bracelet HaloJmpr made for him. And was fascinated by the knives crafted by Razor Blades and Anvil Head. I think he's going to like knives as much as I do. Guess I'll be buying in pairs from now own. I found out that Jerry Russell is not as tall in person as he is in his avatar, but is as nice a guy as you could meet. Larry Young Jr. is taller than Jerry's avatar, though. Stopped by and visited for a long while at the Misfire Game Calls booth. If any of you came after us, sorry for the spittle in the calls. T Bou tried them all out, and five year olds tend to slobber a bit. We got the VIP room with Troy and Jacob Landry. T Bou gave Troy a Who Dat?! that got Troy to laughing. I asked them which one was Junior and which one was Willie. Troy was quick to point to Jacob and say "that's Willie right there!" Jacob gave us a big smile and said "No way, I got all my teeth!" We talked a little about us being from LA, then got a quick picture with them and moved on. Great guys and full of energy until the end of the day. T Bou wants to go back tomorrow after church, so we may give it a go. Only saw one fool there, starved for attention, as usual. Took his picture:
