I scouted these birds last weekend and put a camera out. I went to get the camera Friday to check the pics, but before I got to it I ran into a bird hammering away and strutting. Didn't take me long to figure out where I was going to sit this morning.
One bird started gobbling really early....about 10 minutes to 7. Then another chimed in from the same general direction. Then another sounded off to my right. About 7:30 I saw 4 birds on the far edge of the field and I know two were the birds I had been hearing. Three hens walked across the field towards me. About 7:40 I hear something to my right. I see four birds coming my way, one long beard and three jakes and they're headed right for my hen decoy. I let him get passed the decoy and turn then I let have a load of #6 hevi shot in the back of the head.
The jakes hung around and I could have blasted them too, but the other two birds were still gobbling. I grabbed my bird and headed home listening to those two birds gobbling like crazy in the distance. I have a date with them next Saturday already on the calendar.
10 inch beard 1.25" and 1" spurs.

Why didn't you just go kill another one Saturday instead of giving them another week to get "henned up" Should have seen the monster gobbler a friend of mine shot on Saturday. Thing had 5 beards looked to range from about 4 inches up to 10 or 11. Killed it in Walton County.

Congrats, Mack. It is a good looking bird.
And I'm sure you were just being funny when you asked if I had gone. Between TBall and taxes, and some overdue yard work, my Saturday was booked.
However, no Tball game this weekend, and taxes may can wait for the afternoon. So I may head to Morgan Co. and give it a try. Anyone want to go as my guide and show me how to get a turkey into gun range so I can shoot it?

I am taking him this Saturday and we're going to set up right between the roost and the strut zone. Red

With all the Mexicans up there you can't find one to do your yard? I'd jump all over going to Morgan Co, but I have to stay close because of Kelly and the baby. I haven't even been to one property because it's a 30-40 minute drive. Call AG or Lee. You know he's always looking for a hunt. Red

I don't want to get up that early. Otherwise, I'd go show you how to shoot....
