I honestly think they are scared GON will shut the forum down if there is even the slightest PG rating.
First of all, I don't really even know how much GON has to do with the forum. I highly doubt the guys at GON are such sticks in the mud that they would shut the forum down. There is this notion that there are a ton of 10 year old boys constantly searching the forum for information and we wouldn't want them to see anything even remotely provacative. I think that's crazy. There might be a few members on the site under the age of 16, but I highly doubt there are many. And even if there were, they wouldn't even "get" what a thread about mounting a cougar really meant.
Second, the mods, if the site were taken away from them, would lose all of their "power" so they do whatever it takes, most of the time vastly overreacting.

It's to the point that I never leave the sports forum over there. I used to like the political forum, cooking forum, and turkey forum but I have had bad experiences in all but the sports and cooking forums. That turkey forum is a freaking zoo. It's like being a new kid on the playground at a new school in there. There are five or six die hards who think you owe them a pound of flesh or something before they'll "let" you post in their little forum. If you dare dissagree with them or say anything that they dissagree with, they try and give you a cyber beat down. I told them what a pack of little girls they were and let them have it. Bunch of punks as far as I'm concerned.
The political forum has just gotten beyond stupid and I'm not talking about some of the far left loons who come in to stir the pot. The mods are freaking nazis over there. There's one in particular who shall remain namelss who made somewhat of a round about threat toward yours truly because I "couldn't get along" with another member. We were arguing about partial birth abortion. How are you going to "get along" with someone who views that differently from you? Put another way, how do you have a political forum where it's not ok to argue?
The cooking forum is still pretty cool but I just stay in sports now. There's more wiggle room in there with Muddy as a mod.
I'm a pretty laid back guy that likes to joke and likes to give people a hard time. I also don't mind if someone gives it right back to me. But some of the little internet tough guys just get on my nerves. Freaking girls.
It just kind of seems like if you are one of the chosen few ie a GON ass kisser, you can get away with murder. But if you aren't, there is a whole different set of rules. Oh well, I'll just stay in sports.

I think it has a lot to do with who said jerks are. This crew in the turkey forum are part of the inner circle over there so they are untouchable. I won't name names in the open forum but if you are curious enough, pm me and I'll tell you all about it. Don't want it to sound like sour grapes. It's fine and dandy with me if they have thir heads up mods' butts. But the notion of some people being able to say whatever they want and others being on an extemely short leash is kind of screwed up in my opinion. It's less that way in sports so I just stay there. That campfire forum is a circus too.

turkey forum and waterfowl forum are a lot a like, imo. but y'all are right, the turkeys get a lot more leeway. probably because guys like tench and arrow3 are the mods.
i mean, I'm looking at a thread right now where Nitro says the term "halfassed" and both Brandon and Greg quote it immediately and agree with him. If that term were anywhere else it would be axed.
strangely enough, the guys in the upland forum are a lot cooler than the waterfowl and turkey forums, which is odd because a lot of the upland hunters I know are pretty snooty.
but anyways, sports, firearms, and upland are about all I read. the main campfire forum is too insane and the people aren't all that entertaining.
